On January 24th, Apple will usher in Mac’s 30th birthday. Having experienced diachronic evolution for many years and remake in shape and size, its design has always been in a leading position. Since the revolutionary advocate of Steve jobs era, Mac has risen to the top of the food chain, becoming one of the Apple’s landmark achievement. Although most of the older Mac has been gradually withdrawn from the historical stage, they are still enduring and bear a fashion look. Now, let’s review together the classic Mac family members.
1. Lisa
In 1983, Apple launched its first model – Apple Lisa whose development cost three years and about $50 million. The name Lisa comes from the daughter of Steve jobs. The computer was sold nearly $10000 at that time (about $25000 by the standard of now), which shows the degree how luxury it is. There is no doubt that the high prices of Lisa keeps most consumers outside, then doomed its poor sales.
Actually, in technical areas Lisa is not a real Mac, but it still affects the first Macintosh – The Mac released by Steve jobs on January 24, 1984 for the first time.
2. Macintosh XL
In order to improve the sales of Lisa, Apple redesigned the model in 1985 and changed its name to Macintosh XL. Compared to the first generation model, its price has been cheaper a lot at $3495.
3. Macintosh 128K
Launched in 1984, model 128K was the first real Mac computer whose retail price is about $2495. With its 9 inch screen, 128 K memory and the “good” auxiliary function, Mac sales started to thrive.
4. Macintosh 512K
Shortly after the release of 128K, Macintosh 512K was born. In addition to the extra four times memory, other configurations are basically the same.
5. Macintosh Plus
In 1986, the Macintosh Plus steps into the market. It has a 1 MB memory, along with a SCSI port, which means that the user can install the external hard drive. It sells for about $2599 at that time.
6. Macintosh Portable
In 1989, the first battery-powered Mac walks into the market. Its 16 MHz operating ability was considered to be pretty fast then. Even so, the sale is not good for the close to 16 pounds weight.
7. Powerbook
In 1991, PowerBook, the truly first portable computer of Apple’s came out, thanks to its light weight. The floppy disk drive of PowerBook is an independent external entity. This equipment production line was enduring and continued until 2006.
8. iMac
iMac made its debut in 1998. It is one of the first major projects of Apple after CEO Steve jobs back to office. It leads the tide by the unique translucent and bright colors. Compared to its former products, iMac was added many fashion elements, and also replace the floppy disk drive with USB port.
9. iMac G4
iMac G4 amazed tech enthusiasts by its flexibility and the flat shape. Due to its thin neck design and the rotary screen, this 2002 newly launched machine even attracted audience’s desperate sound on Steve jobs keynote speech.
10. MacBook
In 2006, Apple has introduced a new MacBook which is famous for its built-in iSight camera, clear smooth LCD display and the integrated keyboard.
11. MacBook Air
MacBook Air is the modern holy grail of MacBook series. It is the most thriving invention of Apple which is also known as the world’s thinnest laptop (partly because it removed CD/DVD drive). Jobs launched the product in 2008 and then the redesign and updated version came out constantly. The original version is configured with an 80 GB hard drive and bright LED backlight.
12. iMac of Today
With a thinner and larger body, the modern iMac is equipped with a slender screen, and a separated keyboard and mouse. The latest 27 inch version adopted the lighting – fast Intel processors and Fusion Drive data storage, which integrates the traditional hard disk and the flash memory.
While Mac is still not perfect yet though its current model is already amazingly light, thin, and fast enough. The removal of CD/DVD drive plus Steve Jobs so called “a bag of hurt” Blu-ray together restrict the performance in some respects more or less which also bothered many Mac enthusiasts since very early time. So it is always a hot topic to seek a most appropriate Mac Media player wherever the Mac exists until Macgo comes.
